How to claim vehicle-related expenses
Many of the costs associated with running and maintaining your vehicle are covered under your novated lease. This guide explains how to claim reimbursements from TFM if you’ve had to pay for certain products and services out of pocket.
The process is designed to be simple and efficient, but where possible, you can avoid having to make reimbursement claims by using one of our preferred providers. Please refer to your Driver’s Guide or the guidance article associated with each service (e.g. tyre care) to find recommended providers for that service.
You can claim reimbursements for certain products or services, so long as there are enough funds in your lease budgets and you have the relevant product or service included in your lease arrangement. If you’ve used an external provider for:
Please note that expenses such as tolls, fines and parking costs are not eligible for reimbursement.
If you need to adjust your lease budgets, please refer to our guide on Understanding Your Lease Budgets.
If you’ve paid an expense upfront, complete a Vehicle Expense Claim Form here, and submit it with your tax invoice(s) and proof of payment directly to reimbursements@tfal.com.au.
For vehicle insurance reimbursements, please also include your policy document showing the breakdown of GST and stamp duty.
The way you claim depends on how you charge your vehicle, the type of EV you have, and what’s included in your lease.
Home charging
If you drive a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), you can claim your home charging costs once a year at the end of March. Complete the Vehicle Expense Claim Form here and submit it on 1 April, covering the previous FBT year. Attach:
A recent electricity bill in your name showing a charge has been applied to your account during the claim period.
Charging stations
If you’ve used public charging stations, complete a Vehicle Expense Claim Form here and attach all your tax invoices from charging your vehicle. You can submit up to four of these reimbursement claims per year.
Choosing your EV charging reimbursement method
Each FBT year, you can claim EV charging costs using one method only — either home charging or public charging stations, not both.
This means you’ll need to choose the option that best reflects how you primarily charge your vehicle for that year. Once you submit a claim using one method, you won’t be able to switch to or submit claims under the other method until the next FBT year.
Tracking reimbursement claims
Claims are usually processed and paid into your nominated bank account within 10 business days.
